Effective date: October 26, 2026 Applies to: MomentFTP 0.9.0 and later (macOS)
MomentFTP is developed and published by independent developer wang hong ("we", "us"). This policy explains how MomentFTP handles your information. The short version: we don't collect any data.
1. What we don't collect
- No personal information. MomentFTP has no accounts. You never sign up for or sign in to any service of ours.
- Nothing is uploaded to us. Your server addresses, usernames, passwords, private keys, file listings and file contents are never sent to us or to any third party.
- No analytics or tracking. The app contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or third-party SDKs. It does not use the advertising identifier and does not track you across apps or websites.
- No servers of our own. MomentFTP never connects to any server operated by us.
2. What the app connects to
MomentFTP connects only to servers you add or enter yourself (over SFTP, FTP or FTPS) in order to browse and transfer your files. These connections go directly between your Mac and your server — never through us.
- SFTP and FTPS connections are encrypted. FTP is a plain-text protocol, and the app warns you about it at all times.
- During server-to-server transfers, data passes only through your Mac's memory. It is not written to your disk and does not pass through any third party.
3. Information stored on your Mac
The following stays on your Mac. We have no access to it.
| Information | Location | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Server library (name, host, port, username, group, color tag, notes, private key file path, etc.) | ~/Library/Application Support/MomentFTP/servers.json | Contains no passwords |
| Passwords and key passphrases | macOS Keychain (service com.moment.ftp.credential) | Saved only if you choose "Save to Keychain"; protected by the macOS Keychain |
| Trusted host key / certificate fingerprints | ~/Library/Application Support/MomentFTP/known_hosts | Used to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks |
| Window layout and preferences | App preferences (UserDefaults) | — |
| Private key files | Stay where they are (e.g. ~/.ssh) | Read only when connecting; never copied or uploaded |
4. File and folder access
The local pane reads the folders you choose to browse (such as Desktop, Documents or Downloads). macOS asks for your permission the first time. This access is used only to list files in the app, upload them to your servers, or save downloaded files. You can revoke it at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders.
5. Crash and diagnostic information
- Crash reports and logs are kept locally on your Mac (in the macOS system log and crash report folders). The app never sends them to us automatically. Logs never contain passwords, key passphrases or FTP PASS commands.
- We only see diagnostic information if you choose to email it to us when reporting a problem. We use it solely to troubleshoot and delete it afterwards.
- If you enable "Share with App Developers" in macOS System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may share crash information with developers. That process is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and you can turn it off at any time.
6. Children
MomentFTP is a tool for developers and system administrators. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children.
7. Deleting your data
Because everything lives on your Mac, you can delete it yourself at any time:
- Delete the app.
- Delete the folder
~/Library/Application Support/MomentFTP. - Open Keychain Access, search for
com.moment.ftp.credentialand delete the matching items.
8. Website
The MomentFTP website is a set of static pages. It uses no cookies and embeds no analytics or third-party scripts. Our hosting provider may keep standard access logs (such as IP address and time of request) as part of its normal operation; we do not use these logs for any analysis.
9. Changes to this policy
If a future version changes how data is handled (for example, by adding an automatic update check), we will update this policy first and mention it in the release notes. We will never start collecting data without telling you.
